Science, Photography, Life etc…

Here is my first picture of my axolotl! He’s just over a month old although I’ve only had him for a week. I’m assuming he is a he as you can’t sex them until they are more developed, heck he’s not even got legs yet! Hopefully he’ll keep on surviving for the time being and should get looked after over the Christmas break.

Here are the (good) photos I’ve managed to take so far, hopefully I will eventually get hold of some macro gear and have a proper crack at it! I could really do with a flash I think to avoid having to use super high ISOs. I’m pretty pleased with how the first attempts have come out though!
Xavier is currently living on a diet of brineshrimp and blood worm, what more could a little axolotl want!
In other news I applied to my first PhD today; hopefully I will be successful as it sounds really cool and I’d love to live up in York it looks a great place. Kazz and I are going up to explore in a couple of weeks which is exciting and I’ll get to meet my potential supervisor, hope it goes well!
Labs are going OK. I’m at a stage where I’ve not got that much to do other than sort out babies and let them grow ready to start analysing their behaviour after the Christmas break. Writing is going less well, I seem to have a very short attention span but hopefully I shall be able to get some stuff done on my introduction tomorrow and get that underway so I don’t have to do much work over Christmas and can enjoy my holiday and then the PopGroup conference in peace. I’m looking forward to the conference, it’s going to be a new experience but we’re going as a group which should make it entertaining at least. Apparently I get a name badge! How terribly exciting!
Kazz is visiting mine before Christmas which shall be good! She gets to look after me when I get my hair cut and go to the dentist, yippee. I’m looking forward to going home, I can’t wait to not pay for food but most of all washing; I’ve worked out that I’ve spent about £30 on washing already this term, quite frankly that’s ridiculous damn my productivity and going to the gym!
For New Year I am heading to Karen’s and we are going up to the lakes to go to Centre Parcs which I am excited about as I have never been there before! I’m hoping for some cool frosty weather for me to photograph and perhaps some fireworks on NYE itself. We are going to a moonlight spa which sounds very exciting, maybe there will be wine involved!
Anyway the general consensus is that I’m looking forward to lots of things!
