Science, Photography, Life etc…

So last weekend I went up to York for a chat about the PhD I want to do there. It was pretty good and I really hope I get it because the area of research is fascinating. It would be such a unique opportunity to work with fossils and compare their DNA to extant specimens at the population level. Plus York itself was really nice, we went and looked around the Christmas market which, to be honest, wasn’t as good as Nottingham’s but I did have a tasty donut for breakfast! The labs I saw were fairly standard and the department in general is very much a “normal” university building. By which I mean it started as one good sized building and had several smaller ones added on to it and then had corridors to connect them all up and consequently its pretty maze like in there! Fortunately the labs for the PhD on offer are all on the ground floor or in the special aDNA lab shed on the other side of campus. I hope I get it!
In other news its KarenandSimon Christmas on Saturday!!! I wrapped up K’s present last night ready for her to open when we wake up. I want a stocking really but I don’t think that will happen. We are planning to cook a gammon joint and eat tasty posh cheese with mulled wine. All we need is some snow and it’ll be perfect!
I’m rather looking forward to going home too, the prospect of being cooked for and cleaned up after is very appealing and of course I can’t wait to see my parents and little bro. Christmas day itself should be a good event with J and I “helping” mum cook the chicken/turkey/whatever-we’ve-got-this-year and lots of present unwrapping. I love unwrapping presents.
I wonder what Kazz has got me!
