Serendipity strikes

Serendipity is a magical thing.  I was taking photos of a bunch of flowers for my fiancee a few weeks ago and have only just got round to looking at the files now.  I don’t own a macro lens or an external flash so I get by with my 50mm prime and the trusty pop-up on my D300, its not ideal but its a damn sight cheaper than a good macro lens.  Whilst the shot was lucky I believe you can significantly enhance the luck on your side by having a vision and trying different things and this is something I am definitely trying to improve for my photography.

This shot may not be perfectly in focus and certainly isn’t true macro but I like way it looks and it works really well in black and white.  I have no idea, however, what type of flower it is!  Any insights would be appreciated.

Update:  I have been reliably informed that it is a very special flower, a favourite that I should purchase on special occasions, a tiger lily although I can’t point out what species it is unfortunately.
