Science, Photography, Life etc…

I hit the wall hard earlier this week. Taking a photo a day is easy. Taking a good photo every day is definitely not. I wouldn’t describe myself as naturally creative, and this project was undertaken in an effort to help me develop a more creative approach to my photography so I shouldn’t be surprised by my early failings, or lack of inspiration etc.
I do have two admissions to make though. On Friday I was particularly frustrated and didn’t manage to take a photo (wooh I lasted all of 5 days on my goal), and on Saturday I took a few photos at an agility show K and I went to but the lighting was abysmal (1/125th of a second @ f/5.6 and 3200 ISO =S) so I won’t be posting those after my, much appreciated, constructive criticism delivered by Mr Milan.
Below (and in the main header) is what I did manage to produce and was pleased with, I hope you like it.

05/01/2011 – Self Portrait #1
One of the ideas I found was taking a self portrait every month. This is me in the bathroom mirror at 11pm after coming home from work. I like the range of tones that have been accentuated with the black and white conversion and the overall look of the image works well I think. I’m not quite brave enough to come out from behind the camera yet though…

06/01/2011 – Twelfth Night
Technically the 6th of January is the day after Twelfth Night but this was the day our Christmas decorations were taken down so I’m running with it! Twelfth night is the day number twelve in the twelve days of Christmas and is the evening of the epiphany where the Three Kings visit the Baby Jesus in Bethlehem. The Three Kings followed the star and so we have the simplicity of the star with the Christmas tree.

09/01/2011 – Tasty Biscuits
Whilst I was on the phone earlier this afternoon K baked some tasty biscuits using the Hairy Bikers Mum’s Know Best Cook Book. As well as tasting very good they were very nicely decorated and definitely deserved a photo or two. I had ordered some LED lights
for my lightbox project so I got K to hold them at various angles until I produced an effect I liked. The above picture was produced stacking a few exposures together to mix the lighting and create a well balanced photo. The one at the top of this post is a single RAW exposure of the best looking biscuit, they taste as good as they look!
