I love zoos!  The above photo is from the South Lakes Wild Animal Park; I’ve been here a few times now and really like the ethos of the place.  They are really big on conservation and trying to show animals in a realistic environment; the enclosures are as big as possible and most of the time there are several animals in the same habitat.  Well apart from the large carnivores obviously!  They are particularly big on Sumatran Tigers, they have a few at the zoo and feed them by sticking massive cuts of meat on top of telegraph poles and making the tigers run up them.  It’s a really impressive site to see, but the angles are rubbish for photographs unfortunately.  From a conservation point of view they do a lot of money collecting and do a lot of promotion for the Sumatran Tiger Trust which is very important as only there’s estimated to be less than 400 left in the wild, which is pretty much on the brink of extinction for a top predator.

These ring tailed lemurs are in an exhibit with lots of other lemur species and they are free to climb about all over the shop!  You aren’t allowed to feed them sadly but they are allowed to climb on people which is quaint.  Anyway it’s and awesome place and I’d really like to work for their conservation service.

I’ve put it on my map just because I can!  Here’s the link.
