Science, Photography, Life etc…

A varied week of success with the camera. I went to a wedding fair on Tuesday at our reception venue to see it all decked out in the livery and took a few candid shots of the details with my prime lens. My beloved 50mm f/1.8 is easily the most cost effective bit of kit out there and travels pretty much everywhere with me; if you’ve any desire to get into photography seriously one of these must be in your kit bag (obviously you can get a Canon equivalent if you’re inclined). Anyway, about 25% of all my photos are taken with this lens and some of my most recent crop are too!

25/01/2011 – Candles at Garstang
This is our wedding reception venue, the tables were all set up and looked great! The candles in particular were nicely set up and taking advantage of the massive aperture of my prime lens I captured this. Importing it into photoshop and tweaking it slightly the black and white look really suited it and this was the result.

27/01/2011 – Light painting!
It’s certainly not the best photo I’ve ever taken but I did enjoy having a go playing with my LED torch and long exposures. I’m hoping to put the images together into a (very) short film at some point which will hopefully look good. What I’d really like do is something like this but I’m not quite at this level yet!

29/01/2011 – Agility training
We went for a walk on St Annes beach last evening which had some awesome light. I took a few silhouette shots, like in the post header, and then had some time to photograph the puppy whilst he was playing with his favourite toy. Honestly I left my camera on the wrong setting and ended up with this panning shot which I really quite like! I’ve put some more of the shots up here in my online gallery.
