Science, Photography, Life etc…

I’ve had a few opportunities to get out and about this week so made the effort to take my camera and get some interesting shots. Next week will be really hectic as K has a couple of interviews and we will be finishing up our wedding planning ready for the big day next week!

08/02/2011 – Tube
I normally hate and love the tube. Don’t get me wrong it’s genuinely an exceptional piece of public transport, ideal for London and its inhabitants; but I can’t stand how old it feels and how easily it overheats. I don’t think I could manage it everyday, and certainly not in a suit, but it definitely makes navigating the vast metropolis easier than a bus.
The main photo from this post was taken whilst on the tube, it’s a pretty sterile environment with the recycled air, so I used the bleach bypass filter in Color Efex to desaturate and over-exposé it slightly. I’ve never been that keen to do candid portraiture, I think it’s because the shutter noise on my camera sounds so loud when you are surreptitiously take a photo of someone and it makes me feel self conscious!

09/02/2011 – Present box
We picked up our wedding rings today and they came in this delightful box. We’ve since had to unwrap it as it may be a bit of a pain to do at the alter in church but not before a quick product shot to preserve it on my hard-drive.

10/02/2011 – Hand silhouette
The theme this week on DPS was body parts, so here is my hand silhouetted and converted to monocolour. Pretty simplistic but it works.

11/02/2011 Manchester Union
I was in Manchester on Friday, walking back to the station I passed what I think is the union building (correct me if I’m wrong) and grabbed this photo just to say I’d been there! I must say the whole university district is really cool, lots of new buildings which mix in well with the gorgeous red bricks that, presumably, are reminiscent of the original university.
I’ve put the photos up on my map as well, here’s the link.
