Science, Photography, Life etc…

I’ve been going back over some old photos and re-editing them recently as I’ve not been out and about much taking more shots. This is one from February last year where I fulfilled a long standing ambition of photographing an ice hockey game from ice level. I wrote about it a couple of times; but to recap, it was a varsity match between the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University. After a frantic 60 minutes of regulation it all came down to penalty shots where the University of Nottingham would take the victory on penalty shots. I really like this shot because you can see the skill involved in carrying the puck up the ice under pressure from an opposing player.
The whole event was an amazing experience being so close to the action and I’d really love to do it again in the future. The opportunity definitely added to living an interesting story, a concept I’ve really gotten to grips with after reading Donald Miller’s latest book (A Million Miles in a Thousand Years). The basic principle is to do interesting and meaningful things and I guess to imagine your life as a story book and what would make captivating reading. My experience at the varsity game was interesting to me because I’ve been an ice hockey fan for years, and meaningful because I was capturing the images for the IMPACT magazine, one of which got shown on their website (unfortunately the original post has disappeared but screenshots can be found here). Whilst a lot of life is mundane I’ve certainly benefited from those all too fleeting moments where I manage to escape and do something exciting; like spending two weeks in a truck driving round Morroco (see all the posts here) or zip trekking in the Canadian Rockies despite an irrational fear of heights and harnesses.
Anyway, I hope you all are living your own stories well and that your adventures take you someplace amazing. Remember to share the experiences as well, a story is immeasurably improved if it’s told to other people.
